and now back to our regularly scheduled program...

yesterday was rachel's 1st day of high school. i can not believe that i have two children in high school now, josiah and rachel. josiah, olivia, and amanda started school this morning. it is just jacob and i home this morning. scheduled life is back. i guess that is good somewhat. i like the laid back summers of doing whatever we want, when we want. but, it does feel good to be back on some kind of a schedule too. it does make more time for me to study and get other things accomplished.

during the school year, i plan and prepare more meals for us to eat together. i make a monthly meal plan and shop weekly for what we need. in the summer, we eat out a lot and aaron cooks on the grill most of the time when we eat at home. so, i shop as we need food and i never plan any day of meals more than a day or two ahead of time. i enjoy cooking a lot. but i do not like cooking the same things over and over again. i like to try new recipes. so, today is planning day. i am setting up our monthly meal plan and making a grocery list for the week. then, off to walmart. here we go!

Sounds as if you have a busy day planned! I like to cook large quantities of my recipes so I can freeze some. Nothing excites me quite like finding a frozen casserole or spaghetti sauce...just heat, and eat!

We like to grill a lot of meat and freeze that, too.

We are helping our other son move back to college this week. Then, all will be very quiet...we will have an empty nest!

Blessings,
Beth

Yup! Another school year begins! I just got done with my chores just now. So I like it, I have some quiet time to visit my friends :)

I try to make dinner early so when my hubby and son come home from work and school, I have the time for us to chat for a while and spend time with each other without fussing what's for dinner.

Sometimes, I try to make one pot meals and it makes cooking a lot easier and lesser to clean up! I hope you have a wonderful day sister despite this new busyness ahead for us as our children went back to school. Blessings and love.

Christy,

Oh how I am not looking forward to next week, when my lazy non scheduled life will now have to conform to some kind of a schedule.

Here is to sharing this next school year with moms like yourself and what wonders it will bring.

Two in high school-wow. Next year I will have have two in middle school, and that will be bad enough!! And I love the idea of a menu, I can just never seem to get organized enough to make one. And I have one who doesn't eat beef at all, so I usually end up making at least one separate dish for her, so it's hard to come up with menus sometimes. I have realized lately though, that my life would be much easier if I had one. I hate to get to 5pm still wondering what we're going to have for supper tonight! Speaking of...I've got to go get started now! :)

We are getting back in the grrove also.
so glad that I stopped by today.
This summer has been so crazy that I have not visited some of my favorite blogs often enough.

I guess I am rather boring, I do like cooking the same favorites over and over, and thankfully my children are happy because they like it, too. I am not an adventurous cook. :( However, I do enjoy giving my family a good meal.
Happy meal planning!

I LOVE returning to a schedule at the end of summer just about as much as I enjoy leaving it at the beginning of summer!

Do you find it easier or more difficult with just you & Jacob at home? I am wondering how it will be when the older two go back to school and it's just me and the Littlest One. He loves his big brother and sister so much. I think it's going to be an adjustment this year!

And in the blink of an eye, they'll be in college, and then getting married and then giving you grandbabies!! Trust me, it goes by QUICK!

I should plan meals better but these days its just me and the hubs so I am far more spontaneous with my cooking. Sometimes that doesn't work out well because I'm missing what I need to make what I want! Planning would be so much smarter!!

How funny is it that we have the very same post title today? Glad you are getting back to a schedule!

I wish I was better at meal planning. I miss having the kids home, but I agree, schedules are also a great thing, and having both kids in school, I hope to be better at getting things accomplished! No excuses! Yikes, high school! Sure goes fast...I say it ALL the time! ;)

Oh, I remember those days. They were good, but I don't think I would have the energy to do them again. Enjoy them while you can!

Wow, your schools start early! I just got a letter from our district today stating that there might be a strike.

Here we are all excited to get started and they may strike. I may start working in the schools before my kids go to school.

I have substitute work in two other school districts, but not the one my kids are in.

Enjoy the regular schedule & Jacob.

I've never been good about meal planning...ever. I'm more of a walk down the aisle and "let it come to me" planner. And then I 9 times out of 10 forget one of the major ingredients to my meal, and have to go back to the dreaded Mart of All Things Wal.

But, with my new homeschooling venture, I'm determined to meal plan. And coupon shop. And all those other wonderful things that I hear "work." We'll see. Because this is my first week on my meal plan...and so far, I haven't cooked anything on my menu.

Huh.

I'm off to a great start.

I agree...there is something to having all the kids on a schedule when they are in school.

Hope you are a great day planning and shopping.

Amen sister! I am in the same boat as you. I need to do more planning and shopping and less eating out with our family. Good luck to you shopping today! I know Walmart can be crazy at times:) God bless~Robin

Great post. I'm sad to send my middle son off to Kindergarten... but it will be so nice to have a routine again. Way to go making a monthly meal plan. I wish I had the guts to try that. You inspire me to try though!

I so know what you mean. I love Summer and doing whatever...but when we get back into school and routine and schedules, it is always a breath of fresh air.

Thanks for sharing your four things that begin with a "B".

Yes I was baptized in the South China Sea in the Philippines. I love that whole part of my life.

Some day I'll share my testimony.

Baskets...oh my gosh! I lived in the Philippines as you now know and boy did they have some cool baskets.

I had a lot, but have gotten rid of some over the years. I have two really neat ones, but they are in the attic for now. School books and furniture over ran our house.

I like baskets too, but had to back off for awhile.

Thanks for dropping by.

hey, would you mind sending me a copy of your Meal Plan when you get it made? I'm always curious as to what other people plan, and i liek to cook, but it's not a natural thing for me... takes lots of planning. i follow this lady, a homesteader, and she always gives her meal plans, i love looking at her ideas and what she puts together.
