"new"

"new"

this is the word that keeps coming up in my heart as the "new" year begins.

according to dictionary.com, the definition for "new" is having just been made or come into being;  of a kind now existing or appearing for the first time; or something not previously experienced or encountered.

"the thing that has been---it is what will be again, and that which has been done is that which will be done again, and there is nothing new under the sun." ecclesiastes 1:9

there is only One who can make things "new." only He can create the "new" out of nothing.  all else that is brought about by us is brought about by things that already have been.

when we use the word "new," we usually mean "new" to us. but when God uses the word "new," he means "never existed before."

"behold, i am doing a new thing! now it springs forth; do you not perceive and know it and will you not give heed to it? I will even make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert." isaiah 43:19

"and He Who is seated on the throne said, 'see! I make all thing new.' also He said, 'record this, for these sayings are faithful and true.'" revelation 21:5

so many times when we look to God for Him to take care of us, we think He is going to do so in ways that seem likely to us. but, God is in the "new" making business. He does not take old things and fix them up. He creates a "new" thing.

i do not want to try and figure out what God is doing in my heart or what "new" thing He is going to do. i just want to be excited for the "new" thing that God has promised.

I think that is what I LOVE about a "new" year...even a "new" day is the promise of a fresh begining...the newness.

Thanks for sharing.

I pray that my heart is always able to discern for those new things He wants me to do for His glory for this new season. Your post is a beautiful reminder, to not look back to the past, but look forward to what is new. "We are new creations" and so, glory to God! Blessings and love to you sister.

Wow, I love this. It never occurred to me before, that a new thing is 'new' and not just 'new to us.' Great word today, Christy!

What a wonderful word to "live" by. God is constantly doing a new thing in us. And He who begins these good works will carry them on to completion.

May you feel ALIVE in the newness!

Love, Jennifer

Christie,

I am thankful that God creates a new person in us each time we seek true forgiveness in our lives. It's like having an Etch o Sketch and God shakes it all away allowing us to once again create a beautiful picture. The old one is long gone!

I thought this post was great... it's like when He never closes one door without opening another. I'm excited as well for all the 'new' He will reveal to me this year! :)

2009 had a lot of New things it in - a new daughter in law (never had one before) and a new home in a new state with new challenges. My boys keep wanting to return to the "old" ways of life - and sometimes I'm right there with them. However, I keep reminding them and me that in this new and different place, God's promises are constantly renewed - thought those promises have been there since Moses and Abraham. This newness is uncomfortable because we do not have it all figured out yet - we just have to walk in faith that God's "New" will have more blessing - because He called us into it!

Here's to genuine, heart-felt excitement about God's New plans!
