help portrait

yesterday was a time to give back to the Lord in this Christmas season. rachel and i went downtown to help participate in an event that was headed up by a couple in our church who are photographers that were offering up their photography talents to those who could not afford professional pictures of themselves or their family at this time in their lives. they offered a full experience of pampering with hair and make up and even snacks and fun for the kids while they waited for their turn to get their pictures taken. our church donated the books to give away, as a gift, to every child that wanted one and the coffee, donuts, cookies and snacks. it was called "help portrait." this is the flyer that they put on the doorway of the entrance to the building that it took place in.

many people from our church volunteered to help with everything that was necessary to make the people who came feel special and loved and to help everything run smoothly

hair and make up were offered for those who desired that opportunity.

here, josh is doing his masterful work

time to show the finished product on the computer for them to choose their favorite pose

we gave away so many books. the kids seemed to really love them.

as all of these things took time, there were many people on hand to love on and entertain the kids as they waited for their turn.

pastor andy took a special liking to this little boy

jessica aaron could not get enough of this little girl

rachel loved hanging out with the kids and playing games with them while they waited on their parents

some of the little girls wanted to play beauty shop and she so sweetly obliged them

it was a wonderful experience. i loved observing so many people enjoy the opportunity that was presented to them and accept a loving token of some pampering and a professional photograph. there were many who were so appreciative and some who had never had a professional picture ever taken before. before the day was over, there were around 90 photographs that were taken and given to those who took the time for God to bless them that day. i was overwhelmed with the great feeling that arises when you know that God has just touched some of these people's lives forever.

There was a church in our area that did this very thing. What a simple and yet profound ministry. Truly, it doesn't take much to touch the heart of another.

Shalom,
Denise

What an incredible, loving gift to the community; you were putting some flesh on our Jesus yesterday. Thank you for taking the time to give out rather than take in.

AWESOME!

Christy,

Oh how I wished more people did this to help those that can't afford even the smallest of things like a Christmas photo.

Thank you for all you continue to share!

That is awesome. I have never heard of that being done before, but what a wonderful idea, especially this time of year!

It is so amazing that when you bless people you find that they bless you right back.
