it's a sad day for our family!

it's a sad day for our family! our first family dog passed away today. we loved him very much! he has been a part of our family for 13 years. josiah was three, rachel was 18 months, and olivia was 6 weeks old when he was welcomed into our family. he was the cutest golden retriever that you have ever seen. he has astonished the vet in living as long as he has. over a year ago, he told us that dodger had already lived past his expected life span and to not expect him to live any longer. but, up until a couple of weeks ago, you never would have known that he was even old, except a little graying in his face. today, he decided it was time to rest from this life and meet us in heaven. we expect for him to greet us there when it is our time to rest from this life as well. he has touched all of our lives and we will never forget him.

                                                                                           DODGER
                                                                                11/1/1996--11/18/2009

                                                                                                isn't he beautiful?

                                                                               he could catch anything!!

                                                                                    he loved the water!

looking for leftovers at the kitchen table

jacob loved to spread his front legs apart and scoot himself back until he could lean upon dodger's chest

or just use him as a pillow

we will miss you very much dodger! you were the best dog EVER!

Okay this makes me sad because we have a lab/golden mix and she's 13 years old too. She's slowing down but seems pretty happy for the most part. We will be sad when her time comes too.
Thanks for sharing your memories. Dodger looked like a nice dog.
Hugs

I'm so sorry Christy. I know he will be missed so much. I have such fond memories of our family dog, Shep. He, as far as I'm concerned, was the best dog in the world.
Just as your sweet dog was.

He is a beautiful golden! It hurts to lose these special friends. I was a mess when I had to say goodbye to my first golden, Beau. It is never easy.

Wishing you much peace in your memories of Dodger.

Oh Christy, I'm crying right now as I read this. I'm so sorry and I pray peace and comfort in the Lord for your family.

As a HUGE dog lover since my child hood I've had to say good bye for now to many. Last year 4 days before my birthday it was Teak. This year it was Mommy (she was our cat). I have two maltese boy dogs that are young that my hubby got for me last year after my time of saying goodbye to Teak.

So I can only imagine what your family is feeling. Thank GOD that you all as will we, be able to greet our loving fury-family members in Glory.

Our pets are grazing, running and playing in a beautiful place with the LORD.

Blessings dear friend.

Aw, I am so sorry...I am sure you have seen this before.....but it always has been a source of comfort for me when I've had to say goodbye to my pets/animals.

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Thanks everyone!
Connie--We honestly do not know exactly what happened. He was having a hard time getting around for the last couple of weeks but other than that he showed no signs of being sick or old. The day before he died he would not eat and the next morning he could not get up by himself. I could tell it was not good because he still would not eat or drink. By 2:00 in the afternoon he was gone! It was so fast and sad! I was hoping that he would stay alive until the kids got home from school. The saddest part was burying him. We all cried.

Christy, Im sooo sorry! Dodger is the only animal I have ever loved! He is the only pet my kids have everknown, I have so many fond memories of my kids learning how to be around animals, since we've never had one. Oh, and I'll never forget how excited Nolan would get when we told him we were going to dodgers house! All along thinking that dodger was Aaron!! So many great memories of a great dog! We will miss you too dodger!

I'm so sorry to hear about your "sad day". I know how you feel, I lost my Boxer dog a couple of years ago to cancer. She was like my first child because we got her before I had the kids, and she was so good with my boys when they were born. What a great way to honor Dodger! He had such a cute face.

Awwwww, he was a beautiful guy. He reminds me of our "Jake". He was our golden retriever and was more 'red' than Dodger.

He got hit by a car but made his way back home before dying. Oh how we miss him.

Christy,
I am so sorry to find out that Dodger died. I am so sad at the thought of not seeing him any more when I come to visit. I thought he was the best dog. I loved him.
It is always so sad to lose a pet that you have loved for so long. I know God is able to heal the hurt but it takes a while, for me at least. I am so glad that you got some really great photos of Dodger.
The ones you posted on here are so sweet. I remember how much he loved the water when Aaron would turn the hose on him. Those are great memories. I believe he is running free now. No fear of anything hurting him now. He's probably up in heaven playing with Missy!
Love you, Angie

Christy,

I am so sorry I completely missed this post somehow! I am bad about reading the top post and not scrolling down to make sure I didn't miss any. I had no idea you had gone through this this week and I wish I could've offered my support. What a beautiful dog. Hannah is much the same way, as we have always had a hard time keeping her fenced in. She had been doing so well, not leaving the yard, until the other day. I am so sorry that this happened to your family. That was a beautiful tribute to Dodger.
