starting the summer with a license to drive

today was the first full day out of school for us. summer has now begun. the kids all slept in today. it felt really good to not have to get them up and let them sleep until they woke up by themselves. i used to love to sleep in when i was a kid and i love letting them do it too.

josiah was the first one awake because he was pretty excited about his upcoming day. he knew he was going to be able to go and get his driver's license today. i can hardly believe that he is going to be driving by himself. it is kind of bittersweet to me. i am proud to see my son growing up and becoming a young man and yet saddened that he is not my baby boy anymore. i think he thinks that the license that he got today is a license to take on the world. he is pretty stoked about it.
and yet grandma rose was letting him have a little piece of her mind with her lecture about a license being a privilege and not a right. i hope josiah listened very carefully.

it is going to be a lot different around here knowing that josiah can just drive instead of having to take him everywhere he needs to go. i hope it is a wonderful summer for him. the first day is looking good for him so far because he is................

Ah yes, the teenage rite of passage. It changes everything. And I cannot WAIT until I can give that lecture to my grandson!

Awwww! How cool for him. I bet he is super excited. My daughter, 16, wants to get hers too but we really don't have an extra vehicle for her to drive right now so we are just waiting.

I can safely say that in a few months, I could easily copy and paste your post, and just change a few letters in the young man's name, and it could be my post!! "Joseph" gets his license in August!! Congrats to "Josiah"!!

I liked letting my teenagers sleep in, too. I think they do far better on a good night's rest. When I homeschooled, I didn't get them up at the crack of dawn for that very reason. And because I needed my sleep too.

God's protection over your newest driver! Heheh...

How exciting! Love the pic of grandma giving the lecture. Too sweet! The best part of summertime is sleeping in! I can't wait, the boys last day of school is Friday & it can't get here fast enough!

I know, it is exciting for the youth, scary for the parents! But once he demonstrates responsible driving, it is also freeing for the parents. God bless.

What a wonderful day! I cannot wait until we get to sleep in - June 9 - UGH! And congratulations on the big D! I think that's the hardest part of parenting - harder than when they pack their bags to move out to go to college! What a happy guy - and isn't it great to have a Grandmother Rose to give the advise, too - double-teaming is definitely the way to go:)

That was so scary for me at first and I couldn't relax until I'd see them pulling back into the driveway. However, it really does make life easier when they drive.

I'm with you. I would have really mixed feelings about my son driving. I know we gotta let 'em go someday :( I'm praying he'll be safe out there!

Congrats on the license and for you my friend! I know how you feel but I also know you and your DH have done a great job with him and with his g-ma telling him I am sure he will be very careful!

Christy, I'm just a few weeks from my son getting his license. Not looking forward to it...AT ALL.

The older my children get, the more my prayer life gets kicked up a notch!
